Jesse has always been interested in soil cultivation and Megan has always loved flowers, so when we purchased the Briar Marsh property in late 2022, we knew we would grow something. Jesse started researching profitable crops and stumbled across cut flowers. This immediately sparked Megan’s interest and support. We discovered that over 80% of flowers purchased in the US have been imported, and that didn’t sit well with us. We wanted to provide a locally grown, season floral option for our friends and neighbors. And not only did we want the flowers to be of superior quality, we wanted to do it while practicing sustainable agricultural practices. Thus Briar Marsh Blooms was created in 2023. We are learning as we go and are so thankful for the support we have already received. We have numerous ideas and dreams for the farm, but most of all we want it to be a …….source of grounding, peace and joy.
Megan Sewell
Megan grew up in the West Texas desert where the most common plant around is the mesquite bush. She attended Texas A&M University (whoop!) and then PA school in San Antonio. She’s spent the last decade nurturing her two babies who are now the best farmhands.
If Megan isn’t in the greenhouse babying her seedlings, you can probably find her with her nose in a book. She’s living the dream life, working part-time as a physician assistant, flower farmer, family coordinator/taxi, and lifestyle medicine advocate.
Favorite Things: reading, dancing, horseback riding, walking in nature, traveling
Jesse Sewell (aka, Farmer Jesse)
Jesse grew up in the hills of Middle Tennessee. His love for soil and trees was established as a child, roaming the hills and woods around his home. Jesse enlisted in the USMC after graduating from high school, serving two tours in Iraq. He then attended UT San Antonio and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Though his work as an engineer pays the bills, his heart has always been with soil and trees. He’s the backbone of our farm and as strong as an ox. When he’s not working the soil or around the farm, you can find him woodworking or playing with the kiddos.
